Some ideas don’t arrive in a flash, they sit quietly, building over time, waiting for the right moment to take shape. Suppressed Suns was one of those ideas.
For me, the concept had been there for years. It lingered in the background through deployments, training, and eventually the transition out of the military. After leaving the army, I shifted my focus toward building something of my own, working with brands to create tactical content rooted in authenticity. It was a natural evolution, but the idea of creating a product, something tangible, never really went away.
Rick, still serving in the Pathfinders, shares that same mindset. A professional environment where performance matters, where equipment isn’t just aesthetic but essential. We had already been working together, producing content that reflected that world accurately, no exaggeration, no gimmicks, just real experience translated into visuals.
The turning point came in a pub in Wales.
It wasn’t a boardroom, and there was no grand strategy presentation. Just a conversation over a few pints the night before a shoot, one of those moments where ideas stop being hypothetical and start becoming real. The concept resurfaced, but this time it stuck. What if we built a brand that was grounded in military influence without becoming a cliché.
That night, the name Suppressed Suns was born.
The next phase wasn’t glamorous. It meant diving into the process of finding manufacturers who could meet a very specific standard. Not just producing sunglasses, but producing the right sunglasses. Quality wasn’t negotiable. Materials, fit, durability, everything had to align with the kind of product we would actually use themselves.
This stage is still ongoing.
Suppressed Suns is very much in its early days. There’s no overnight success story here, no finished product flooding the market just yet. What exists instead is a foundation, an idea backed by real experience, a clear vision, and the willingness to take the long route to get it right.
And Suppressed Suns isn’t being built for quick wins, it’s being built to endure.
